Sarah Pringle a former bookbinder and photographer, refers to herself as a ‘curious perfectionist' – a detail-oriented person who values seeing things in new and interesting ways. Through the medium of bookbinding, she came to her practice by working with parchment, pigment, and leather, dedicating years to perfecting her craft.
A quality she learned from her grandmother who often worked on a large collection of Bonsai trees. Sarah would often watch her ‘operate’ on these small trees which taught her a very early lesson about refinement and commitment to a process over the long-haul.
Her Work and Process
Pringle working out of her studio in West Massachutts, where she collaborates with architects, designers, furniture makers, metalworkers, upholsterers, conservators, artists, and other skilled individuals to create extraordinary custom work.
Sarah has dedicated thirty years of her life to working with rare materials such as animal skin parchment, gold leaf and pigment, creating contemporary furniture and handmade objects that are all at once functional and exquisite.
Her work pays reverence to the uniqueness of the materials, taking seriously the hard work and sacrifice that has gone into their production. Each piece pays homage to the importance of structure and to the dignity and elegance of the natural world.
