About

Wycliffe Stutchbury is a British artist working from his art studio in London, UK. He studied at the London College of Furniture, and Brighton University where he was awarded a Bachelor of 3D Craft in 2003. He has received several awards, including the ‘Best Contribution to Show’ award by the Crafts Council at the Somerset House (London, UK).

Ancient oak, holly & weathered timber

Consciously working only with fallen and forgotten timber, Wycliffe Stutchbury’s artistic ethos has an integrity that focuses on truth to materials, as well as sustainability.

The origin of the timber is central to his process, whether working with the pure-white timbers of a holly tree or the semi-petrified timbers of a 5000-year-old bog oak. Led by the timber itself, he works instinctively as he assembles his material into delicate patch-worked landscapes of texture, colour and pattern.

A meditative and reflective process, Stutchbury’s works consider the struggle between our desire to impose form on the natural world and its unwillingness to conform.

Stutchbury has exhibited extensively across the UK and in the US, including: Saatchi Gallery (London, UK); the Jerwood Foundation (London, UK); PAD (London, UK); Design Miami (Miami, US); and Art Beijing (Beijing, China); and luxury hotel art projects in the Middle East (Dubai, UAE and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia). Recognised by discerning art collectors in the Middle East & GCC (Dubai & Abu Dhabi, UAE) and internationally, works are held in prestigious private collections in Europe, North America and the Middle East (Dubai & Abu Dhabi).
