Mark Evans
Etched leather
Mark Evans is a draughtsman and sculptor who works with surgical precision to etch the surface of leather hides, creating remarkably photorealistic images. Evans works with the world’s finest, and often largest, Sorensen hides from Sweden.
Working within less than a tenth of a millimetre, he etches through the fine surface layers of dark skin to reveal contrasting lighter tones of the tanned suede beneath.
Brought up in the wild natural landscape of North Wales, Evans is passionate about how a material like leather retains a raw appeal.
