Laurine Malengreau

About

Laurine Malengreau, an award-winning Belgian artist, creates ethereal biomorphic works using the ancient Nuno-silk technique. Trained by Carmen Escolano, her cosmic-inspired creations are featured in prestigious private and public collections globally.

Wool & silk

Laurine Malengreau comes from a generation of contemporary textile artists inspired by the rich heritage of the French Aubusson region.

Inspired by historical crafts and ancient traditions, Malengreau’s practice explores the Nuno silk technique – an ancient felting tradition with roots in Central Asia.

True to this traditional technique, Malengreau blends natural wool, mohair, merino fibres and silk by hand. Through a gentle washing process, the wool fibres open and become meshed with the silk, transforming the separate raw materials into one lightweight non-woven fabric.
